Phase 1

Please note, the entry dates have been changed for 2024 only, the revised award schedule is:

• 1 April 2024: Applications Close (online application) - Phase 1
• 1 May 2024: Shortlist announced for Phase 2
• 1 July 2024: Shortlisted candidates submit 1500-2000 word article - Phase 2
• 1 August 2024: Winner announced

If you wish to be considered for the Alan Ingham Award please:

Complete and return the Entry Form (see below).
Supply a 400-word summary of your dissertation studies which would form the basis of your feature article for soundings and/or presentation at a Hydro conference.

Your form must be endorsed by a tutor/lecturer at the university where you are/were studying.

All forms and summaries must be received by 1st April 2024.

Up to six candidates will be shortlisted to proceed to Phase 2.

All entrants will be notified of the outcome of Phase 1 by 1st May 2024.

Phase 2

After Shortlisting

The shortlisted candidates are required to submit their 1500-2000 word paper for soundings by 1st July 2024.

They will receive guidelines on the preparation of their paper when they are notified of their selection.

Adjudication of Phase 2 and eventual selection of the Alan Ingham Award winner and runners-up will be based on the 1500-2000 word papers.

All candidates will be notified of the results by 1 August 2024.

I confirm that if selected as the THS:UKI nominee for the IFHS Student Award I would be willing and able to present this paper at the next Hydro* conference. I understand that if this changes I may become ineligible for either/both the Alan Ingham Award and the IFHS Student Award.

I confirm that if I am selected as the winner or runner-up of the Alan Ingham Award I am willing to have my paper published in the Society's magazine, soundings, and that I will ensure that all copyright and other permissions are satisfied prior to publication.
