Job Description

Are you passionate about hydrography and looking for an opportunity to contribute to be part of an organisation that fosters innovation, collaboration, and the advancement of the hydrographic profession?

The International Federation of Hydrographic Societies (IFHS) is seeking nominations to join their Board in the position of Vice Honorary Treasurer.
Given the practicalities of UK bank signatory requirements, UK residency is preferred, though we welcome applications from strong candidates based elsewhere.

What is the IFHS?
The IFHS is a unique partnership of national and regional learned societies worldwide, dedicated to promoting hydrographic expertise, careers, and community. We act as an umbrella organisation to:
• Establish an international voice for hydrography and related disciplines.
• Encourage the application and dissemination of hydrographic sciences.
• Foster inclusivity and technological innovation within the hydrographic community.
This is your chance to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of hydrography while working alongside a passionate and supportive team.

What is the Role? Vice Honorary Treasurer
This is a voluntary role. The Vice Honorary Treasurer is a key member of the IFHS Board, supporting the current Treasurer, Eric Langlois, to provide oversight on financial matters.
The role is designed to be low-activity and fully supported by the Secretariat, Yvonne Liversidge, and it offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of the IFHS.
This is more than just a role—it’s an opportunity to be part of an organisation that is at the forefront of supporting and advancing the hydrographic profession.

Key Responsibilities:
• Act as an authorised signatory for IFHS bank accounts, with minimal payment responsibilities.
• Oversee budgeted income and expenditure, ensuring alignment with IFHS and HPAS activities.
• Collaborate with the Treasurer, Secretariat and accountants to maintain financial records and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Contribute to the preparation and submission of the Annual Trustee Report and End-of-Year financial statements.
• Present a true and fair view of the organisation’s financial health to the Charity Commission and Companies House.

Why Join Us?
• Supportive Environment: The role is fully supported by the Treasurer, Secretariat and the whole Board. The Secretariat handles day-to-day financial tasks.
• Low Time Commitment: Designed to fit around your professional and personal commitments, the role requires only periodic oversight and annual reporting.
• Make an Impact: Contribute to the success of a global organization that empowers the hydrographic community and drives innovation in the field.

How do I Apply?
If you are interested in this exciting opportunity, we invite you to apply by Monday 07 September 2026.
