HydroSurv is a UK-based specialist provider of research-informed Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs) for hydrographic and environmental surveys. The fleet includes battery-electric and battery-hybrid vessels ranging from 1.6 to 6 meters, optimised for inland and coastal applications.

HydroSurv joins forces in UK maritime battery innovation programme

A consortium of leading industry and academic partners has secured funding through the Department for Transport’s Smart Shipping Acceleration Fund (SSAF)  and Innovate UK to advance maritime decarbonisation through the new BOSS LEVEL project.

The project will investigate battery optimisation and monitoring systems for future decarbonised vessel fleets. HydroSurv’s long-endurance USV’s, with innovative hybrid powertrains developed in-house, will serve as a test platform for the research.

“This project aligns perfectly with our expertise in hybrid vessel technology,” said David Hull, CEO of HydroSurv. “Our advanced power management systems will provide valuable insights for developing solutions that could benefit multiple maritime segments including ferries, offshore windfarm support vessels and harbour workboats.”

The consortium includes B4TSwanbartonWMGUniversity of PortsmouthHoulder and MSE International. The project is funded through the Smart Shipping Acceleration Fund (SSAF) and delivered by Innovate UK as part of the UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) £206m programme. It will run until March 2025.
