Yesterday, representatives from THS:UKI and UKHO attended the University of Plymouth Earth, Marine and Environment Careers Fair. The event provided an excellent opportunity to engage with students across a range of ocean-related courses and introduce them to the world of hydrography and the diverse career opportunities it offers.

Students from the MSc Hydrography and BSc Ocean Exploration programs showed remarkable enthusiasm, and it was equally rewarding to connect with students from other ocean-focused courses who were discovering hydrography for the first time.

Attending the careers fair was highly beneficial for the Hydrographic Society as it provided a unique opportunity to engage directly with students and early-career professionals interested in the marine and ocean sciences. It allowed the Society to raise awareness of hydrography as a profession, showcase the wide range of career pathways available, and highlight the exciting opportunities within the field. Connecting with enthusiastic students helped build relationships with the next generation of hydrographers, while providing insight into the skills and knowledge students are developing.

Events like these are essential for promoting the profession, inspiring future talent, and strengthening the Society’s presence within the academic community.

The team extends its thanks to the University of Plymouth Employer Engagement Team for the invitation and for hosting such an engaging event. A special thank you goes to Phillip Hope for his support on the stand, representing both the THS:UKI South West Branch and the UK Hydrographic Office.
