THSUK&I Southern Branch – November 2022 Meeting

About This Event

 

Society members and guests are warmly invited to join our annual meeting during MATS week . The aim of the meeting is to explore the evolving reality of remote hydrography and how current and emerging technologies will impact hydrography.

The meeting will start with a series of short presentations from acquisition, software and communications system specialists around the challenges and opportunities of new ways of working, followed by a panel discussion.

Speaker Biographies:

Dr Richard Dowdeswell , General Manager – Geoacoustics Ltd

Richard has worked in technology development, sales and management for 25 years. He founded a spin-out Company from the University of Manchester which sold innovative process monitoring equipment to food and drink manufacturers to ensure quality and consistency of their product. He joined the UK Government’s Centre for Environment Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) in 2007 as the Technology Transfer Manager and took over management of the organisations subsidiary technology development company. Before leaving Cefas he was responsible for business development in the Middle East and was instrumental in winning a number of contracts and establishing Cefas’ first overseas office in Kuwait. In 2017 he joined Kongsberg GeoAcoustics Ltd, a subsidiary of the Norwegian multinational Kongsberg Maritime. Having given the Company a new strategic direction he returned it to independent ownership in 2020.

A.Felipe Silva, Business Development Manager – Eiva Marine Robotics

With 17 years of experience in the subsea robotics space, A. Felipe is responsible for EIVA’s global business development with a focus on advanced solutions for marine robotics systems. A. Felipe has been with EIVA since 2018 and has been involved in several ROVs, subsea resident and autonomous vehicles projects deploying EIVA’s cutting-edge software technology. A. Felipe holds a technical diploma in automation & control, a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and an MBA in Innovation & Business Management.

Jim Gardiner, Global Innovation & Development Manager – Sulmara

Jim studied for a BSc in Ocean Science and an MSc in Applied Marine Science at the University of Plymouth before joining the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office in 2000 as an Oceanographic Analyst. In 2008, he joined Valeport as Product Manager and for 14 years was involved in the design, development and testing of oceanographic and hydrographic instrumentation. He recently joined Sulmara as Global Innovation and Development Manager, to help bring agile, disruptive and innovative services to the Offshore Energy Sector by pioneering low carbon solutions to minimise the impact of energy creation on the environment.

Sean Wilkinson, Systems Engineer – ITC Global

Sean has 10 years of experience in data networking, with 5 years in the global satellite communications industry. Prior to joining ITC Global in 2020, Sean worked for 2 years at Apache Corporation as their lead Network Engineer for the North East region, providing support to the Beryl and Forties platforms. Sean has also held other network and satellite communications roles for IFB and Harris CapRock (now part of Speedcast). Sean holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Network Management and Design, from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. He is also certified as an Intellian OneWeb User Terminal Trainer and Cisco CCNA.
