This month Laurence Dyke from the UKHO will be talking about new bathymetry collected from the Irish Sea; describing the interesting glaciological features found within, and expanding on what that means for our understanding of how glaciers work. This work is absolutely crucial to understanding how glaciers and ice sheets will behave in the coming years, decades, and centuries.
The Civil Hydrography Programme (CHP) is a long-running data collection programme undertaking systematic surveys of the UK’s coastal waters. By collecting high quality data, the information can be used for much more than SOLAS. Part of a series of data sets collected in the Irish Sea, off North Wales under the Hydrographic Instruction 1706 (HI1706), has produced a fantastic insight into the geological past of the UK.
