Unmanned Survey Solutions design, build and operate Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) for data harvesting at sea. USS has gained experience in operating both small 2m USVs around ports and harbours and more recently with their larger 5m vessel on offshore wind for cable route surveys and in oil and gas for pipeline route surveys.
This presentation will cover technical and operational challenges associated with operating USVs remotely to gather high resolution Hydrographic and Geophysical data sets.
It will present experience from two case studies: Cable route survey off Germany using hull mounted MBES and SSS; Pipeline route survey of Nigeria using a hull mounted MBES, SSS and SBP. Logistics, operations, technical and environmental challenges will all be discussed.
A review of the applications will then lead into a discussion on what is required for future technical and operational advances to further increase USV survey capabilities offshore.
