Teledyne Gavia has announced a major expansion of its engineering and production facilities in Kópavogur, Iceland. This expansion comes in response to the growing demand for both the low-logistics Gavia-class systems and the larger Osprey and SeaRaptor autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs).
To meetthis rising demand, Teledyne Gavia has more than doubled its manufacturing space and significantly expanded its engineering, manufacturing and support teams. These improvements will enhance operations at the Gavia facilities in Iceland and bolster support roles for the North American market, based in North Falmouth, Massachusetts.
With a rich history of innovation in AUV technology, Teledyne Gavia has been producing the Gavia 1,000m-rated AUV since 2003. In 2018, the company introduced the SeaRaptor 6,000m AUV to its product lineup, and by 2022 launched the Osprey 2,000m-rated AUV. Looking ahead, Teledyne Gavia is developing an air-deployed Gavia variant, slated for release in late 2024. The company has also enhanced the Gavia AUV by integrating advanced imaging sensors such as the Teledyne RESON T20 multibeam and Kraken MINSAS sonars. This diverse fleet enables users to explore deeper waters worldwide, achieving greater coverage in less time.
Stefan Reynisson, vice president and general manager of Teledyne Gavia, stated: “Teledyne Gavia is pleased to be able to respond to customer requests for added capacity and capabilities and shorter lead times. The response to a diversified product line and additional sensors has been very positive. The goal is to meet the ever-changing needs of Teledyne Gavia’s customers.”
Teledyne Gavia capitalizes on its prime location in Kópavogur, Iceland, where convenient access to in-water testing sites and the nearby harbour enhances its commitment to innovation and excellence in subsea technology.
