Next Geosolutions Europe (NextGeo), a leading Italian company in marine geosciences and offshore construction support, has acquired Subonica, an Italian firm known for its expertise in underwater surveying and inspection using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). This acquisition aligns with NextGeo’s strategy to enhance its services, particularly in the growing renewable energy sector.

Founded in 2002, Subonica has built a strong reputation in the underwater and maritime industries. With roots dating back to 1983, the company has steadily expanded its ROV fleet, developing cutting-edge services in underwater robotics. Subonica’s offerings include environmental monitoring, support for underwater construction and detailed surveys for both installation and maintenance of underwater structures.

This acquisition will allow NextGeo to expand its geophysical and environmental survey operations along coastlines, working closely with its associate company, NextPoli. The deal includes the addition of a new ten-metre coastal vessel and three observation-class ROVs to NextGeo’s existing assets, which already feature the nearshore vessel NG Coastal and a fleet of offshore work-class ROVs.

These new resources will enable NextGeo to conduct more effective survey and inspection operations in coastal and shallow waters, areas where larger ROVs cannot operate efficiently.
