Job Description

Join us in this Hydrographic Survey Manager role, where you’ll lead a team contributing to the safe navigation of all the commercial vessels that transit the 90kms of channels, river reaches and berths in and out of the Port of Brisbane.

Our team manages the installation, calibration and maintenance of all hydrographic and metocean equipment on the Port’s dedicated survey vessels, in addition to providing technical support to the Port’s dredging fleet. They’re also actively involved in supporting external clients, on a range of challenging projects, mainly along the Queensland coast.

As the Survey Manager, you’ll:

  • Deliver strategic objectives, including continuous improvement of systems and operating standards
  • Oversee all survey activities, ensuring the highest health and safety standards, and optimisation of planning and resourcing
  • Lead internal and external survey projects, ensuring data is obtained on time, at optimal cost and is of a high quality
  • Liaise with stakeholders on all aspects of survey planning, survey, data collection and processing
  • Build a culture of innovation within the team, encouraging an improvement mindset and championing improvements including improving survey operations, equipment performance and software developments.
  • Actively develop your team through coaching and providing development opportunities, including promoting the pathway to hydrographic certification.
  • Identify and optimise external revenue opportunities
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external clients and regulators, ensuring deliverables meet expectations
  • Ensure project brief/debriefs are completed by Project Hydrographic Surveyors
  • Monitor relevant standards relating to hydrographic surveying and driving continuous improvement

Carry out promotional presentations to internal and external clients

About You

About you, you will:

  • Be a certified Level 1 Hydrographic Surveyor, holding a degree in surveying (or similar)
  • Have experience in the leadership and management of survey project teams
  • Have experience in managing survey data
  • Be ready to relocate to Brisbane, Australia
