With compact USV applications including Hydrographic Surveying / Habitat Mapping / Structure Inspection / Search & Rescue in mind we shall present a review of the engineering challenge and some recent case studies, discussing:

  • the EdgeTech 2205 sonar innovations and optimisation for compact USV.
  • for each case study; the problem/requirement, the results achieved, the lessons learned.
  • the possible future enhancements.

Designed not only to appeal to any compact USV manufacturer but also USV system integrators, one way this goal has been achieved is by offering a compact integrated system which is capable of simultaneously acquiring multiple high resolution data sets (simultaneous dual frequency sidescan sonar and MPES wide swath bathymetry and optionally sub bottom profiler). This allows USV operators to offer a variety of data deliverables to their customers, secure more work, and enjoy a rapid return on investment compared to other systems.
