Spectrum Geosurvey specialise in coastal geophysical surveys, supporting a wide range of clients in the offshore renewables sector. We have a proven track record delivering the highest-quality hydrographic and geophysical survey data. Spectrum Geosurvey are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and hands-on tech whiz who is electrically and mechanically competent to join our growing team based in our Lymington office.

As a Survey Engineer, you will be providing base support to our survey operations across sea, air and land environments, so the successful applicant shall have a strong background in mechatronics and experience troubleshooting, electrically and mechanically, specialist marine survey equipment.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Carry out the maintenance, repair, and enhancement of specialised survey equipment
  • Design, build, and integrate mechanical, electronic and computer systems for survey vessels and associated equipment
  • Support project teams by testing, preparing, and mobilising equipment to ensure it is fully functional and ready for deployment
  • Work closely with workshop colleagues and onboard survey vessels to support efficient and successful project delivery
  • Maintain the warehouse and workshop, ensuring all areas and contents are well-organised, with a strong focus on accurate inventory control
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement, innovation, and reliability of our technical systems
  • Provide leadership and set a positive example for less experienced staff
  • Serve as a technical authority on geophysical survey systems
  • Ensure continuous professional development of junior staff and the maintenance of current training and procedural documentation
  • Implementing best practices for handling, maintaining and storing survey equipment as per manufacturer’s instructions or company guidance
  • Ensure adherence to QHSE requirements in the workshop, including the maintenance of BMS documentation
  • Form part of the on-call roster for weekend technical support

Required education/experience & attributes:

  • A strong practical and professional foundation in mechatronics
  • A high level of competence in systems integration and operating survey equipment
  • A high level of competence with vessel mobilisations and calibrations
  • A high level of competence in all the currently used geophysical data acquisition software suites
  • A high level of computer literacy, familiar with using test & electrical engineering tools (e.g. multimeter, oscilloscope)
  • Experience with marine geophysical/hydrographic survey
  • Experience preparing, testing and managing equipment
  • Experience with inventory control and managing a wide range of equipment
  • Experience of training and mentoring others
  • Have approximately 3 years or more working in a similar role, preferably within the marine survey industry
  • Able to work in the UK
  • Full valid UK driving license
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Living within commuting distance of Lymington or willing to relocate
  • Willingness to work outside office hours and in field base locations when required

Desired but not essential experience & attributes:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of multibeam bathymetry, side scan sonar, magnetometer and seismic systems and/or previous experience using hydrographic and geophysical data acquisition software packages
  • Experience with applying programming language (e.g. C++, Python) to electronic systems
  • Qualified and competent in PAT testing electrical appliances for safety
