Job Description

To collect bathymetric data in compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code through use of best practices. To maintain and clean survey vessels. To assist the Management team in putting our customers first, creating a great place to work and continually improving the operations and services we provide by working safely, compliantly and sustainably.

Accountabilities

1. Navigation and contract related hydrographic survey data collection for ABP, and external clients

2. Maintain vessel and survey equipment to ensure that calibration, certification and servicing routines are completed in accordance with manufacturer and industry standards

3. Reporting of defective navigational aids to V.T.S. Humber

4. Play an active role in contributing towards the continued advancement of the ABP survey department. Keeping up to date with technical developments, standards and working practices and assist with implementation where appropriate

5. Ensuring quality control of bathymetric data collection

6. Maintain and take responsibility for a healthy and safe working environment and work in accordance with company policy and statutory requirements at all times. Continually develop, review and work in compliance with Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessments.

7. Assist with training ABP personnel in survey vessel operation.

8. Cleaning of survey vessels

9. Transportation of ABP personnel in the Humber area for navigational safety purposes

10. Help to maintain effective communication that supports company values and strategic pillars, motivates and promotes engagement, culture, awareness and compliance throughout the Humber Administration and development of Marine Operational Procedures through a continual review and audit process.

Essential

  • Excellent small vessel handling skills in close quarter situations
  • Full driving licence
  • Passage planning with minimum under keel clearance
  • RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (Theory)
  • Highly organised with attention to detail and the ability to work effectively under pressure, manage priorities and work to challenging and sometimes changing objectives and deadlines
  • Independent problem solving quality checking ability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible approach to working hours including early mornings
  • Computer literate
  • Must be willing to undertake further training as necessary
  • Be able to work under own initiative and as part of a team

Ideal

  • Experience of multibeam hydrography and towing side scan sonar
  • Proven commercial use of small vessels
  • Previous use of industry standard survey hardware and software packages including Hypack, Reson software.
  • Knowledge of the Rivers Humber, Trent and Ouse
  • Yachtmaster Offshore with commercial endorsement
  • Experienced in computing and networking including computing components, serial interfacing and electronics
