Location: Taunton/Hybrid
Salary: £34,369
Hours: Full time, part time, flexible
Contract: Permanent
If you have a passion for seabed mapping, this role presents both a stimulating and rewarding opportunity to support our data collection and collaboration programmes, ensuring the successful delivery of the UKHO’s corporate plan.
About the UKHO
UKHO is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. We work with a wide range of data partners to chart the world’s oceans in order to develop and serve world leading software and data solutions to commercial shipping companies, navies and maritime organisations. Our products ensure safe navigation and global trade efficiency and support other marine activities including economic development, environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific research and security and defence.
The role
As Hydrographic Programmes Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining the Hydrographic Programmes Team’s Geographical Information System. You will conduct research and coordinate input from wider UKHO stakeholders, collating draft technical visit reports and briefing notes in fulfilment of discrete projects. You will assist the HP Team in the operational delivery and management of programmes and projects, making representations on their behalf, as well as helping to plan and deliver meetings effectively. An intellectually stimulating role, you will also have the added opportunity of developing business cases for new projects and complex multi-stranded international programmes.
What we are looking for
This role will suit someone with a passion for seabed mapping, pairing this with a strong background in geospatial analysis and extensive GIS skills.
You will have a recognised GIS qualification or equivalent experience, building on this with demonstrable experience in the management and application of GIS, preferably within a marine context.
In addition to your strong background in geospatial analysis, you will possess current knowledge of navigational products and their practical application.
You will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, pairing this with proven technical report writing skills.
Additionally, you will be able to organise and prioritise work effectively, matching this with a confidence to work with staff at all levels and to build strong working relationships.
In return
UKHO is a great place in which to explore your career potential. While our projects are career-defining, the work/life balance that we can offer you is equally exceptional. From flexitime, flexible working, an award-winning office environment and a generous annual leave allowance of 34.5 days including public holidays, the opportunities open to you here are hard to beat.
