This is a really flexible home-based opportunity to lead the operation of The Hydrographic Society UK & Ireland and help grow the footprint and influence of the Society and the seabed mapping profession in general.

The Hydrographic Society UK, operating as The Hydrographic Society UK & Ireland, is an independent, non-profit making, non-governmental, learned professional society. It provides a forum for all those involved in activities related to hydrography and associated disciplines, both in the UK and overseas.

Job status

Two-year fixed-term freelance appointment, part-time, one day per week, based upon one-fifth of a 37.5-hour full-time role (increasing for key events).  Flexible hours and working supported.

Remuneration

Salary £300 per day (equivalent to £72,000 a year if full time).  No holiday or sick pay entitlement provided.

Job location

This is a home-based role with occasional travel for meetings and events.

Job Purpose

  • The CEO provides strategic and operational leadership to the organisation while taking responsibility for the organisation’s administration and financial management.
  • Working closely with the Board of Directors, Chair, and Trustees, the CEO develops THS:UKI’s long-term strategic plan, manages successful delivery, and reports on impact.
  • The CEO ensures that THS:UKI complies with the law and relevant regulations.
  • Alongside the Chair, the CEO provides a public face for THS:UKI, and builds relationships with individuals, organisations and stakeholders within THS:UKI’s sphere of influence and operation and ensures engagement with THS:UKI’s membership.
  • Ensures a successful working relationship with the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies (IFHS)

You will be short-listed for interview against the following criteria:

  • A curriculum vitae (2 pages maximum);
  • A Personal Statement (750 words maximum) explaining how you consider your personal skills, qualities, skills and experience provide evidence of your suitability for the role.

Interview

If you are selected at sift, you will be interviewed against the following criteria:

  • A work-based exercise and/or presentation;
  • Evidence of competence and experience against the preferred knowledge, skills and experience.
