SUMMARY:MATS 2022 Marine Autonomy Technology Showcase
DESCRIPTION:8 – 10 November 2022 – Live in Southampton & Virtually on Line\n  \nAbstracts Submissions for MATS 2022 is Now Open\nThe National Oceanography Centre (NOC) are pleased to announce that Abstract Submissions are now open for MATS 2022\, the submission window will be shorter this year running from 28 June 2022 – 27 July 2022\, to view the submission guidelines and access to the submission portal please click here \nThe Themes for 2022 are as follows:\nDuring MATS 2022\, our aim is to explore the information needs of users of Marine Autonomous Systems (MAS)\, review the current technologies available to enable the data gathering for MAS users and explore the methods of taking that data and making it exploitable information for the user need. Presentations may focus on work undertaken or planned to be undertaken in the 12 months since MATS 2021\, New for 2022 we are adding a theme on Sustainability and Net Zero Capability this may be a forward look along your organisation’s technology roadmap or on novel ways of developing operations for the future. \nTheme 1: Sustainability and Net Zero Capability – Through this theme we are seeking to understand how Sustainability is being implemented into organisations and their operations both now and in the future. Net Zero Capability is now a reality and exciting developments are driving this forward\, this element of the theme seeks to understand the planning and development process already in play and moving forward. \nTheme 2: Users & Applications – Through this theme we are seeking presentations from Scientific\, Industry\, Government and Defence end-users of marine technologies. Presentations should focus on current and aspirational application of MAS\, highlighting what the user requirement is. Presentations that set stretching challenges\, outlining those challenges\, for aspirational applications will be scored highly. We will seek to take a balanced approach between current and aspirational activities to ensure MATS includes forward looking ideas as well as ground-breaking examples of actual activity. \nTheme 3: Data Collection and Information Generation – Sensing technologies are the eyes\, ears\, nose and touch of the Marine Autonomous System. This theme will focus on those novel\, innovative and emerging technologies that enable MAS to collect data for the end-user\, through imagery\, physical sampling or chemical and biological detection. We are also seeking presentations that cover interaction with the environment and infrastructure. Data alone is of course not enough\, generating information that meets end-user needs from the data collected by MAS is the ultimate goal of deploying the system. This Theme will explore the collecting data and the novel methods of generating information products from MAS gathered data. Presentations should real field examples of field collected data and also explore (but not be limited to) the utility of Machine Learning and AI\, Data Processing\, visualisation\, GUIs\, augmented realities. Examples of real world information use should be explored \nTheme 4: Planning & Control – Operation of MAS in the environment is just part of the mission and the work to enable it happens outside of the operational element. This theme is seeking presentations that support the planning and control of MAS\, presentations can include but not limited to: Experiences and lessons learned from field trials\, the use of Synthetic Environments\, Mathematical Modelling\, Simulation\, Assurance\, Safety\, Risk and Reliability Management\, Command and Control\, Remote Operations/Remote Operation Centres\, Fleet Management & Maintenance\, Collaborative behaviour\, Monitoring\, Regulation and Legal. Through this theme we’re also encouraging presentations around testing and evaluation centres\, sites and infrastructure\, that provide the proving grounds for technologies. \nTheme 5: Autonomous platforms and supporting technology – Through this theme\, we are seeking presentations that focus on the systems. Through increased intelligence\, operations have evolved from single platform to more of a system approach. Operations are no longer limited to one or two vehicles deployed form a ship\, but can be run in autonomous fleets and utilising technologies such as digital twins. Presentations are sought that include\, but are not limited to end to end systems\, navigation\, networking\, collaboration and cooperation\, residency\, launch and recovery and novel vehicles including a forward look to future vehicle technologies. We’re also encouraging presentations that look at the roles of cyber technologies and digital twins in operations. Presentations should demonstrate how step changes in MAS technology deliver improved performance through real examples of in field operation\, be that with a single platform or a fleet of platforms working to achieve the users goals.

SUMMARY:Scotland Branch Meeting - "An IOGP Geomatics Committee Update"
DESCRIPTION:The THS:UKI  Scotland Branch are delighted to be hosting our first live evening event in two years on Wednesday 30 March at the Palm Court Hotel (Hudson Suite)\, 81 Seafield Road\, Aberdeen. \nOur evening will begin with registration at 1830 and a finger buffet with presentations starting at 1900. \nThe subject of the evening will be ‘An IOGP Geomatics Committee Update’ with the following contributors: \nStarting our evening will be Walter Jardine presenting ‘A (re)Introduction to the IOGP Geomatics Committee – what the actual earthly do those folks do?’ \nWalter\, currently the Vice Chair of the IOGP Geomatics Committee\, will provide a brief refresher on what IOGP is\, and an update on the IOGP Geomatics Committee configuration. He will then give us a briefing on the key activities and products delivered by the committee\, with some information on current focus areas. This includes the EPSG global geodetic parameter database and development of an industry-wide technical specification for offshore surface survey systems (GNSS\, AHRS etc) – being delivered in conjunction with members of the IMCA Offshore Survey community. He will also update us on the long-awaited GIS survey data models for land and offshore infrastructure data (LSDM and OISDM) – sister models to the seabed survey data model (SSDM – an IOGP Geomatics Committee product)….and maybes one or two other things….if his memory holds up\, and he has time. \nJoining Walter remotely will be Josh Townsend presenting ‘Is your on-line Survey software on-point? – verifying the integrity of spatial applications with GIGS’ \nJosh is the Geospatial Strategic Projects Lead at bp and Task Force Chair in IOGP\, will provide an overview of the GIGS (Geospatial Integrity of Geoscience Software) open-source digital testing framework which can be used to benchmark and guide the implementation of high quality spatial applications. He will show how the comprehensive package of checklists\, test data and guidance documentation can help to identify and troubleshoot data integrity issues and mitigate the risks associated with positioning and navigation errors. The session will be based on a wealth of industry good practice from experts across the discipline and demonstrate how to get started with spatial integrity self-certification. \nWe hope you will be able to join us at the LIVE event. Please pre-register for this evening here\, this will allow us to estimate our catering numbers. \nAs per current Scottish Government guidelines for indoor events\, face masks are required inside the venue when not seated or drinking.
