SUMMARY:Remote Hydrography 2024
DESCRIPTION:We are back in Dublin for THS:UKI’s second Remote Hydrography conference and exhibition in cojunction with INFOMAR. This event brings together manufacturers\, operators\, regulators\, and research and development leaders from both industry and academia\, within the rapidly developing field of remote surveying and uncrewed survey operations. \nRemote Hydrography 2024 provides an opportunity to share experience gained in the development and application of autonomous and uncrewed platforms (surface\, underwater\, aerial\, and space-based) and the associated command and support services. These and enabling technologies like machine learning and artificial intelligence will revolutionise workflows for hydrographic data collection\, processing\, analysis\, and presentation. \nThe conference will build on the success of the 2022 event which featured informative lively debates\, both in session and during the busy social programme. The 2024 event will also provide formal and informal opportunities to network\, make contacts\, and build relationships. Through leaders\, innovators\, and practitioners\, Remote Hydrography represents a key opportunity for networking\, promotion\, and demonstrations. For more information on the conference visit the Remote Hydrography 2024 dedicated webpage. \nTHS:UKI and our partner INFOMAR would like to invite you to join us for the Remote Hydrography 2024 Icebreaker on Monday 26 February 1800 – 2100 at The Old Storehouse (finger food provided). \nThe Remote Hydrography 2024 networking social ‘Taste of Ireland’ will take place on Tuesday 27 February within the Exhibition space at Dublin Castle. \nFurther details of these events\, along with information on the location and nearby hotels (some with negotiated preferential rates) can be found here. \nDelegate rates include all social and networking events. Please note that partner rates for social events ONLY are available upon request\, for more information please contact event@ths-uki.org.

SUMMARY:THS:UKI South West Branch November Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Come join us at the Roundabout Pub in Plymouth for the second meeting of the season! \nDate: Thursday 9th November \nTime: From 1900 to late \nLocation: The Roundabout (Pub)\, 2-4 Drake Circus\, Plymouth PL4 8AQ \nWhere: 1st floor \nThis month Laurence Dyke from the UKHO will be talking about new bathymetry collected from the Irish Sea; describing the interesting glaciological features found within\, and expanding on what that means for our understanding of how glaciers work. This work is absolutely crucial to understanding how glaciers and ice sheets will behave in the coming years\, decades\, and centuries. \nThe Civil Hydrography Programme (CHP) is a long-running data collection programme undertaking systematic surveys of the UK’s coastal waters. By collecting high quality data\, the information can be used for much more than SOLAS. Part of a series of data sets collected in the Irish Sea\, off North Wales under the Hydrographic Instruction 1706 (HI1706)\, has produced a fantastic insight into the geological past of the UK.

SUMMARY:Hydro 2023
DESCRIPTION:The 2023 IFHS hydrographic conference will take place 7 – 9 November 2023 at the Geonoa’s Conference Centre in Porto Antico di Genova\, Itlay. \n  \n\n\n\n\nBeyond hydrography: unlocking investments in the blue economy\n  \nThe International Hydrographic Organization’s publication S-32\, The Hydrographic Dictionary\, defines the safety of navigation as the primary purpose of hydrography. However\, marine challenges on a global scale require a holistic approach that addresses all purposes\, with a focus on data availability and hydrospatial data infrastructures as core business.\n\nHydro 23 (Genoa\, 7th-9th November 2023) will bring attention to the need for hydrography in all marine activities\, with a focus on marine data-driven management and decision-making.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Conference will cover four main areas:\n> Coastal resilience \n> Sustainable underwater infrastructures \n> Blue transition \n> Ocean exploration \n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nTo find out more about the programme and how to attend the conference please visit www.hydro2023.com\n\n

SUMMARY:THS:UKI Southern Branch June Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Solent University Scaled Model Ship Handling Centre Visit \nWednesday 7th June 2023 \nSolent University’s ship handling centre at Timsbury Lake\, near Romsey\, provides world-renowned training for masters and senior officers on ships and large yachts\, as well as specific training for pilots and berthing/mooring masters. \nThe centre is the only one of its kind in the UK and one of a very small number worldwide\, and provides a safe and controlled environment for practicing and developing ship handling skills on a number of different vessels in a wide variety of conditions. \nThere are eleven 1:25 scaled ship models in the fleet\, some of which can be reconfigured to represent several ship types. They include a large sixth-generation container vessel\, tankers\, very large crude carriers (VLCC)\, LNG carriers\, bulk carriers\, car carriers and a roll-on\, roll-off ferry. \nEach vessel is an accurately scaled model of a real ship and closely replicates the handling characteristics of an actual vessel\, including single and twin screw propulsion. On-board logic systems ensure that engine output\, delivery and response times\, and rudder response times are correctly scaled. This also applies to bow thrusters and the windlass where fitted. \nhttps://www.solent.ac.uk/facilities/ship-handling-centre \nWe plan to move to a local pub for refreshments afterwards – please indicate if you plan to join us. \nTo reserve your place at this event please visit https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/evening-at-solent-university-shiphandling-centre-tickets-633144170257
